don't worry, the people with the electric cars will lose too. Rumor has it there is a bill about to be introduced to make electric car operators pay a fee per mile on their hybrids so our lovely government can get money to keep up its all-but-helping-us habits. They say the middle east problems and prices caused the increase but less than 15 percent of our oil comes from there so even if it went out the roof there we shouldn't have increased over 15 percent here because of that. They say the pipeline is bad in Alaska and 80 percent of it has to be replaced so in a few weeks it will go to near $4 per gallon. We haven't had oil from there come into the US in years. It all goes overseas. Isn't that strange. Canada had an 8 percent drop yesterday from their all-time high prices from $1.20/gallon to $1.12/gallon. We have a Republican president who's family got all their millions/billions of dollars from the oil industry in Texas. Would it be in his interest to see that the gouging stops? He just has to save face enough to try not to bring total shame on the party. Right now he's not doing too good a job at that. In a nutshell, your oul cartels get together to decide what prices are going to be and agree not to sell for less than X dollars per gallon, thus causing the price to go up. Does the government have the power to regulate the amount of profit they make? Yes....Will they? No.....Our government can dictate to us anything they want and can do the same with the big industry if they aren't scared of losing all the millions of dollars these industries pump into the campaign funds not to mention the wining and dining they do with them to get their way. Face it, we as concerned American citizens can't compete with the big industry execs who legally can send a politician's family to Tahiti for a few months to get away from our high gas prices. I've always heard that if an honest person wins an election he won't be honest long. I want to believe there are a few good men and women there who still believe in fighting for what's right but at the present moment it isn't looking too promising......is it????

I understand your frustration! Using that formula wouldn't it be better to buy a gas hog for a couple of grand, saving the 18 thousand for gas money?
We can all cut back some I bet. Just by planning your trips so you don't make a lot of them can help. Keeping your tires inflated can make a 2 percent difference. WE are just so use to jumping in our vehicles and going to the corner store for something small.

WE WIN by reducing consumption!
I have cut my monthly fuel expences by more than half.
So, quite frankly, If we all did that gas prices would go down.
Also there are federal & state Tax incentives that reduce your cost of ownership of a Hybrid.
Not to mention the fuel savings, & maintenance savings.
Ford, for example has REDUCED the price of the Hybrid Escape (by about $1000, 2006 vs 2007) & also offers low financing on them, so if you take all those factors into consideration, your actual cost of transportation could be less , even though your car payment might be higher.
Useing any alternative fuels reduces our dependancy on foreign oil & will eventually reduce "gas" prices.
You can also go to http://fueleconomy.gov
to find other ways to increase your gas mileage
Reduce your consumption by combining trips to the stores, buy stuff on line & have things delivered.
I do ALL my shopping locally & usually on my way home from work. ( I also often shop for my neighbor, to save her a trip to the store, as I'm going there on my way home any way)
I have my paycheck automatically deposited to save trips to my bank.
Save $$$ by using 'rebate' credit cards, coupons, discounts.
WIN by using your brain, & reducing YOUR consumption, to spend le$$ at the pump.

Press for corn power. No matter what these oil componeies tell you, you can run a car off corn. It's proven.
And besides, the gas prices here are nothing compared to Iraq. It costs them $1 to get a liter of gas on the black market.

Impeach GWB.
Vote for better choices. The Republicans were bought and paid for by the Military Suppliers, Oil Companies, Banks, Insurance Companies and Pharmacutical Companies.
Suprise! They are all making record profits and the CEO's are getting tax breaks on their $Million Dollar salaries.

In some countries, the government actually give incentive for the owner of the hybrid cars. Such as rebates in road tax, etc.

Impeach the president and then vote for people who do not advertise that they are even running. Get laymen in there or the only other option is for everyone to band together and say hey enough, and disolve congress and everyone up there. Learn to handle things on our own without government officials.

we are not supposed to win. Like the song, the best we can hope for is to break even and die in our sleep.
