It's all in how you present the fact that God talks to you. A street person claiming God talks to them is looked at askance. If someone like Billy Graham claims God talks to him, he's seen as closer to God than the average person.

There aren't enough people that God talks to in the loony bin, imo. And you are right, I think it should go both ways.

Not everyone is able or willing to admit that the voices heard belong to god. The fear of facing the deeds they themselves have done are to great. What or how would the unbelievers feel if the suddenly had to admit that there is indeed a God, seems like there would be a whole lot of scrambling...

Just a theory, not that I hold merit to it.

Because those who claim God talks to them are usually Charlatans who want other folks money. Which would you rather, the looney bin, or prison for fraud? God's messages to individuals are supposed to be private, not public.

Maybe because it is similar to "hearing voices".
If it happened to you, don't tell anyone you don't trust.
Feel what you feel but stay humble.
Why should you announce it anyway?

It's okay to talk to your imaginary friend but when you imaginary friend starts talking to you it sets off red flags. Imagery doesn't speak back!
