Call the 3 credit reporting agencies after you get
everything straighten out and ask them to remove
the reports from your credit history. Also ask
your bank for help in reporting this to the FCC
as the mobile phone company falls under their
jurisdiction. Could be a case of files being
compromised. Good luck!

I dont think it is classed as thetf, more fraud. Any unauthorised withdrawel from your account is theft of some sort. Have a look at any contract you have signed with your mobile company and read every bit of it. Circle any paragraph you feel is relevant and seek legal advice. Also, if you get no satisfactory answer/outcome, lodge a complaint with your banks HQ and OFCOM, the regulatory body in the uk (or your local alternative, im assuming you're in the UK)
Also, suggest (in writing) to the mobile company that, if the money isn't recovered and refunded, you'll have a word with the press and see what they have to say about it. (Dont actually do it, they'll cough up in the end)
Best of luck and let me know how you get on

Watch carefully as I had a big problem myself a year or so back. On was set up for pay pal on e-bay. I had 5 or 6 transactions on which someone tried to take just under $2,000 out of my bank and my credit card accounts. Luckily LOL my credit card had a low limit and my bank account was very low, too. But I did have several charges from my bank and from the credit card companies. I finally got it straightened out, but I can no longer use pay pal on my account. And I don't really want to anyway. If you decide to get compensation, make sure you go for everything that the bank may charge you. Good luck.

If the transaction was fraudulent then the bank should refund the money to you.
That being the case, no-one has stolen from you - they have stolen from the bank and it will be up to the bank to make a complaint.
What type of compensation do you really think you are entitled to? Let's try and move away from this frivolous compensation culture - it's not like you lost a limb after all.

The bank should put a hold on the amount fradulently taken from your account. Could it possibly be an honest mistake from the mobile phone operator?

You should probably attempt to file a complaint with your local law enforcement. You will be told if it is considered a 'theft'.
I would start to put everything in writing with your Bank and with your cell phone company. You should send follow-up letters to your bank/phone company verifying what you were told. In your letter you should ask for the money to be returned to your account by a certain date and that if the money is not returned, then you intend to proceed with litigation. Get everyone's names and employee ID numbers that you talk to about the problem and put them in your letters to the bank/phone company. You should keep this information for year(s) after the matter is finally resolved on your end.
You should consider changing your phone number and definitely telling your phone company not to accept any charges to your phone. It's inconvenient for you to change your number, but inconvenient for the thief too.
By compensation do you mean money for your inconvenience? You can always ask but I doubt you will be compensated. If there is a charge for switching your phone number, you should specifically ask for that amount. Good Luck.

See what your bank find. They should re-instate the unauthorised amount as soon as they prove it to be fraudulent, they should also reinburse any charges they have made to your account. The bank have powers to recliam the money from the fraudster. As for compensation beyond this, you would need to ask the bank.

It's not theft, it's a mistake. You should get a refund soon. Not compensation.
