I recently quit using a prescription drug called premarin, it is an estrogen drug to help with my hot flashes. I am 39 and had a total hysterectomy last year. I only need to be in the sun for a few minutes, even with sunscreen and I burn very badly ( with blisters)... I miss my tan!

i looked through several sites regarding premarin and have not been able to find any documentation regarding sunburns/blistering. have you changed anything else?

i'm glad to hear you were able to get off the premarin.

make sure to get enough calcium and vitamin d for your bones now that your estrogen is lower

good luck.

I've been on premarin for 11 years and I've never tanned or burnt - so are you sure it's the premarin - it may be just the natural change of hormones in your body or another medication you may be on - however, many people who have ever been on a sun sensitive drug do not seem to ever lose the effects, while others never have any effects even while on the drug - medlineplus.gov might give you a starting place - but ultimately your dr. is probably going to have to give you answers to this one. Premarin also helps with emotional stability, hormonal stasis, and even though they have the big heart attack scare tactic they are using now, in the broad spectrum of women and heart attack chances - it is very slim - I refused to go off mine and was told I would have to find a new dr. - so I did. I know what has worked for me and what hasn't and if you follow medicine for very long you know what's great today will be sorry tomorrow and visa versa. I'm 42 and I have found progesterone side effects to be quite undesirable and won't ever go back to that as long as I can get premarin.

omg. first I am not sure why you would be on this med....
I just had my hysterectomy as well and living with the hot flashes as much as possible. I have had a doctor perscribe a compound cream which may help with some dryness. it is all natural and your body only absorbs what it needs. Ask your doctor about estriol 0.6/gm cream.
The hysterectomy was a horrible night mare that you just lived threw. If I had a second chance would never have done it. Don't let yourself die of cancer from estrogen drugs now!!!!
layer your clothes, use ac, and keep cold drinks near by. You will make it threw. estrogens only cause cancer and prolong your recovery. been almost 2 years for me and still recovering.

Your age and the ozone are other factors to consider. My doctor says that after the age of 30 your body starts to regress. Not as quickly as you did when you were ages 1-13, but the way you did from the age of 18-25. That also means your skin.
I used to be a beach baby but after the age of 36 decided I didn't want to trade silk for leather.....know what I mean?

First of all tans are really bad for your skin. Second I would ask your doctor for her opinion. She will most likely to tell you the best answer. She went through medical school. Remember that.

If you miss your tan, there are 'great' products for self tanning
at your local wal-mart etc. that really work. Start with a medium then work into a deep tan product. that's all you will need.

Plus it is safer for you and they do work!!!!

I have used them for the last 4 years.

good luck

If it is the tan that you're missing then I believe that you need to check out your local Avon distributor. There are tans that you can get via makeup.
