my husband had a vasectomy about seven months ago. they said he had to ejaculate 20 times and then have it tested. luckily we were clear after the first 20, but i still worry every month that maybe we could be pregnant. guess it's hard to get that out of your head after so many years. he really should go get checked just for peace of mind. i mean what if he still has some swimmers and you get pregnant after going through all of this. that wouldn't be good. it may be a little embarassing bringing that in to the lab, but it is worth it. hope you get him convinced.

My ex was a result from a situation like this. His father never went back for the seminal test and a year later, my ex mother-in-law gives birth. Paternity test proved his father was his dad. The chances of a vasectomy "not working" are slim, but the seminal test is kinda like proof the operation was a success. I guess only time will tell (in your case) if the operation was a success. If it wasn't (which it probably was), you might be pregnant soon.

Pretty risky. The midwife that works at my OBs office was talking to me at one visit. She was talking about it was a shock that I got pregnant, considering my husband had testicular cancer and we were told the chances were less than 4%. Then she told me that she got pregnant 2 times since her husband had a vasectomy. So he really needs to get a seminal test done, unless you all would like some surprises in the future.

What's the big deal "jacking off" in a cup and taking it back to the doctor for testing?

I'm assuming the vasectomy was done because he doesn't want any more kids? I'd say, take in a sample OR there could be a "price to pay" later down the road!!!

Very risky. Not only can he still have some viable sperm in his plumbing, but he could've grown back together. It would be like he never had the vasectomy. It happens a lot more than most people realize.

Its silly to not go back. My husband had the surgery, and he was quite happy to go back for the test. Until the Doctor says he is shooting blanks, he could still have sperm in his semen. Its irresponsible to assume otherwise. Surgeries do fail. They are not always 100% sucessful. He needs to take that test. And the female in his life needs to keep taking her birth control until his semen has been examined under a microscope.

Why would you go through a snip job and not follow up to make sure it was successful. More than likely it did take, however, this is not a perfect world, so I would get that person checked, otherwise you may end up prego.

it's not the time period involved, it's how many times he's ejaculated after the vasectomy. he needs to ejaculate about 10 to 20 times after the procedure. he should have his sperm tested to be sure.
