I.Q., or intelligence quotient, is the product of dividing your mental age by your chronological age. In other words, if a ten year old were operating at the capacity of someone twenty, they would have an I.Q. of 200.

Depending on the test you took, it would seem that you are slightly ahead of the pack. But I am more interested in your reason for the question.

It is estimated that we use about 1% of our mind's available resources. It stands to reason that we could all improve our mental abilities substantially, including you. I have met far too many people (including some on this site) that use their I.Q. like a cudgel or battering ram, instead of a tool to lift up their fellow man. Albert Einstein dedicated his life to making his very complex theories of physics understandable to the common man, and became the most beloved of all scientists as a result.

If you are interested in increasing your mental ability, simply unplug your t.v. and begin to read classic books from cover to cover. You will become something of an intellect in short order.
But the question is, what will you do with it?

An IQ of 111 means that you are slightly smarter than average but not by much. You should probably try to take 3 or more different IQ tests on different days and average your score. Surprisingly most of the IQ tests I took gave me a very similar score.

Over 140 - Genius or near genius

120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence

110 - 119 - Superior intelligence

90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence

80 - 89 - Dullness

70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency

Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness

Well I think 111 is good but I'm not sure as it's been a few years since I have taken an I.Q. test. But I do know this, if you are well rested and fed then you will get a higher score. I took an I.Q. test one day and got a score of 134 or 135 something like that and then I stayed up all night and took another one just to see what the difference would be and it dropped by 5 or 6 points. So be well rested and well fed.

It's good enough - and could be better as it (may) depend on your age and which IQ scale is used.

Also bear in mind that IQ tests, while an indication of aptitude, are just a measure of your ability to do IQ tests.

Also, it assume you are going the test in your native language (ie in French if you are from Paris...)

It also assumes you are having a good day. Taking any exam with a migraine is a recipe for failure :)

Classic formula: IQ = Mental Age/Chronological Age X 100. However, few tests still include the controversial notion of mental age.

A normal intelligence quotient (IQ) ranges from 85 to 115 (According to the Stanford-Binet scale).

The standard IQ range of the population does follow a classic bell curve, with the vast majority in or around normal.

Half of the population have IQ’s of between 90 and 110
25% have higher IQ’s and 25% have lower IQ’s
Only approximately 1% of the people in the world have an IQ of 135 or over.

I can't remember the exact scale without a little research, but I think it goes like this:

Under 90, you are going to struggle in school etc
90 to 110 is about average with 100 being the focal point (ie most people have an IQ of 100)
115 - 125 is typical of teachers, university graduates etc
130 is considered 'Gifted', especially for children. Typical for Doctors etc too
140 is common for a university lecturer, I've read
145 is, I believe classed as 'Genius' and will (just) get you in Mensa

However... For every astrophysicist in Mensa there's a score of losers and so many under achievers it's not funny. Trust me on this, being a "genius" doesn't make you smart!

Interestingly, I read somewhere that most self-made millionaires have an IQ in the region of 120.

I suppose it depends on your childhood too. If you have an IQ of 200 and are forced to learn at the pace of the slowest person in the class/school then you would rapidly soak it all up, then become bored, then frustrated, then distruptive...
At higher levels, if you bulk up outside of school/college and lear at your pace, well lecturers tend to hate it when you correct them :D

I actually answered a similar question here recently:

As it happens I used to be in Mensa and I had a great many good friends there - I also saw a huge number of idiots, alcoholics and worse. Trust me, having a high IQ doesn't mean you are clever, wise or talented, at best it indicates you have good reasoning skills.

Technically I'm a genius. Yay me. My children draw better stick figures, I am utterly useless at DIY and I've made more stupid mistakes than I care to list. I also don't have a great many qualifications. I may be 'brighter' than most of the lecturers I've ever met, but I lack the aptitude to study. I get bored and go off on wild tangents.

Basically, like others have said, it's just another tag. Having a high IQ doesn't make you smart, clever or wise. Similarly, having a low IQ doesn't necessarily make you stupid.

Also, if you take several IQ tests (from several sources) at the same time you will find your IQ miraculously jump 10 or even 20+ points. You're not instantly a genius, you are just learning how IQ tests work...

Finally, bear in mind, most Internet based tests are dubious at best. Unless you take a formal, supervised IQ test, the results are at best a vague guide.

An IQ score of 111 means that you are of average or slightly above average intelligence (100 is average). If your score was in excess of 140, then you would qualify as a "genius".

A score of 111 is very good. You have an 11 point lead over the statistical average. Now what are you going to do with it?

100 is supposed to be the average but I have never heard anyone claim to get less than 100. So 111 is good but not stephen hawkings good.

However it also depends on which IQ test you took, some of them are biased because they want you get high scores so you will buy their products

IQ is not all that important and it does not reflect other important things such as Common Sense, the way you interact with others, sense of humour etc. Don't get hung up on it - I've known people with really high IQ's who had real trouble just coping with everyday life.

(.......and in case your wondering I'm not someone with a low IQ who's trying to say its not important to cover my own shortcomings - I've a 2:1 Hons Degree and then went on to study a Masters Degree)
