A month ago I had a very bad argument with my family. A lot of my past which I am trying to put right was nrought up. My uni project was going well and then this happened. I do not have any friends or other family members I fully trust..so I used this website to vent. I wasted a lot of time crying, driving. At one point I did try uni counselling but I cannot access it. I have wasted a month and feel crap about myself. I feel ashamed to tell anyone as I am 28 and feel immature about letting my tutors know. I have only 3 weeks left to hand in my dissertation..so working very hard. I have excused my period by saying I have not been well but DO NOT want to disclose anything further. is this acceptable? I do not want to request an extensdion as then I will have to disclose more and I don't want to.

don't let it get you down too much, it is only your dissertation. And whilst it may seem like the biggest thing in your life at the moment, it won't really affect the rest of your life that much.
I was going out with an alcoholic who was in rehab whilst trying to do my dissertation, and I didn't feel I could ask for an extension based on the fact that he was suicidal and needed constant support, as I didn't want to get anyone else's involvement. I merely said that I had some personal issues which meant that I couldn't always meet the deadlines, most of my tutors accepted this, only one made a fuss, so when she had personal problems, no one gave a damn! I was 33! Do not be ashamed of yourself for this, it won't help. keep working, and do your best, you're not the only one feeling like this I'm sure, and most will have no reasons at all for feeling bad. I got a 2:2 which whilst it wasn't the best I could have done if I hadn't had the problems I did, it certainly hasn't been a problem, in fact, the only people who ever asked what I got were fellow course members who were being nosey! Keep at it, and it will be over soon, then you can address the issues at home with a clear head. I wish you all the best.
oh and the alcoholic dried out, left me, and set up home with his ex! but I'm still smiling!

You can do it! For reasons I don't want to go in to, I had 3 weeks to pick a subject, research and write a Dissertation, or not get a degree after 4 years of study. I did it got a 2:1 and an honours degree! The fact that I was a mature student , started age 30, and had been used to working to deadlines certainly helped. Go for it, don't let the b******ds grind you down!

Please, in case you opt for for an extension to end your dissertation, don't experience ashamed approximately asking. people have won extensions for much less and your tutors could be sympathetic on your reason. in case you are not getting an extension now, you are able to re-do the completed piece, or it may influence your ordinary grade. i do no longer comprehend how your Uni operates in this, yet attempt to communicate to somebody with out postpone till now your workload turns into too lots to administration efficiently. i comprehend you will experience it is confusing to believe all of us after analyzing what you have written, yet once you are able to, communicate on your tutors. I remember answering one of your questions about you driving, look you are going through a really bad patch just now and been honest about not handing in your course work is going to do you a lot of good, the tutors will totally understand, they are human and have had lots of problems themselves too, ok you can't trust you family or friends to open up to, same here, but you can and will get through this by going over to Uni now and talking to either a tutor or a councillor, it is not a failing been honest about how you feel, its just human, the sooner you open up and get everything out in the open the better your life will be for you, just stop beating yourself up and go see the people at Uni please, good luck.

How do you know the tutors will want to know more? I think that if they see you're working as fast as you can, and that you need a bit more time, they will realise that there are other issues that have been coming up for you - all you need call these issues are 'personal and family issues', nothing more. I mean, at your age, the tutors are not likely to phone your family, are they? I think it's better to let them know.

The reason we use tutors is because they have experience that we dont have and they can use this experience in solving problems that we - in our inexperience - never even imagined.
what you need here is courage: be brave enough to tell someone your problems - most people have good will and will try to help - and if you tell the wrong person - why then, tell someone else - you will eventually find help. And you will be proud of yourself that you were brave and conquered your fear of revealing who you are...

You would be amazed at what the Tutors hear, you owe it to yourself to succeed despite everything that has happened. Contact your tutor, be brave and they will give an extension.

Good luck
