Many persons live in gated communities because they want to live in a community that is elitist, smug and exclusive, meaning that not everyone can get in. Many gated communities require an invitation to live there, therefore, keeping certain people out, whether or not they are criminals or decent people. It is not like an ordinary housing area where anyone with the money can get in. Some people feel like certain people must be excluded in order to have a sense of community, which is ridiculous. Some have gated communities because the rich are afraid to live with the rest of society because they fear their riches are in danger of being robbed from them(in the literal sense as in armed robbery). They want to feel safety but they can be lured into a false sense of safety.

they say it's to keep out bad people, but it's really to make you feel like you are individual. It's the same as when people put up boundaries between property. the land really belongs to noone, but the existing society has conditioned people to mark their territory with borders to often time alienate themselves from others to show social status. They have slowly changed the world into one of terror so that they can justify creating a POLICE STATE.

some people are scared.
i think some of them think they are elite.
i think a few of them identified what characteristics they wanted in a neighborhood, and a gated community matched their want list.

some people will do strange things to feel safe.

Because they are trying to make themselves safe without taking any personal responsibility, such as having a gun in the house.

I guess you think I'm nuts, but check out the stats on Kennesaw, Georgia, where gun ownership is mandatory:

military housing bases are 'gated' for the fact that when you enter them, you have to show your military id in order to get onto the base. if you havent got an id to show, you havent got a reason to be there!

It's supposedly safer and supposedly keeps the criminals out. Note I say supposedly. Fact is it's just as dangerous as anywhere else and the background checks are pathetic at best, but people just think they are safer.

It makes us feel we have an added measure of security. But, we do realize this won't keep out everyone. It just feels a little better knowing that people will have to think twice in order to get in.
