The Gandhi Watch is a very nice and unique gift.
Unlike the modern day watch it has a chain attached to a hook which can be fixed to the belt loop of ones pant.
You will get them in a custom notified shop at low rates. The are a bit expensive in watch shops.

if you want not too personal but something he'll enjoy listen to what he likes to talk about and get a gift card to match...
If he likes books get one for a bookstore, electronics? try Circuit City or Best Buy. etc....
Not too expensive cuz you pick the amount of the gift card.. And even if you pick it for less than he'd spend he'll still enjoy it cuz it'll give him an excuse to go shopping for himself.
Even though guys almost never shop for themselves, when they do it's really fun....
