My cousin likes hers because they will play with you for a while and when they're done they will sleep. I like them because they are like a mix between a puppy and a cat, and unless they are sleeping, they DO NOT ignore you.

1. Ferrets are cute!
With mischevious eyes and sweet faces, ferrets are undeniably adorable.

2. Ferrets are very playful and curious.
They will entertain you endlessly with their antics. They will happily play with toys, and watching ferrets play for the sheer joy of it is guaranteed to lift your mood. Remember, it is known that owning pets has real health benefits and the joy and affection they bring is the main reason.

3. Ferrets are sociable, friendly and affectionate.
It if often recommended (although not essential) to have more than one. Having two or more ferrets increases the fun factor for the owner and the ferrets as they will interact and play together, sometimes with wild abandon. And despite having other ferrets to socialize with, they will still crave attention from their owners.

4. Ferrets are intelligent.
Some owners are amazed at how adept ferrets become at solving problems - and training their owners. Ferrets are very determined and will work at figuring something out with surprising persistence.

5. Ferrets are quiet.
While they can and do vocalize, for the most part they are very quiet. For example, probably the only time a ferret will make a noise loud enough for someone in the next apartment to notice is if the ferret is hurt or very frightened. They also sleep away a large portion of the day
.
6. Ferrets are small.
Therefore, ferrets don't need a huge cage. Of course, the bigger the better, and ideal ferret cages are tall with muliple levels, so they still don't take up too much room. They do need time out of the cage daily for playtime and exercise, no matter what size cage you give them.

7. Ferrets are easy to feed.
This is especially true now that a variety of good quality ferret foods have become more widely available.

8. Ferrets can be litter trained.
Perhaps not to the same extent as cats, in that there are bound to be a few accidents. However, most can be fairly reliably trained to use a litter box in and out of their cages - a big plus when you have them out for exercise for a couple of hours a day!

9. Ferrets are easy to exercise.
They can get all the exercise they need tearing around your (ferret-proofed) home! Of course, if you want you could take them for walks. With a ferret sized harness and a little training, you can take them out for a stroll. There are few things that will start a conversation with strangers faster than walking your ferret in the park!

10. Ferret have distinct personalities.
Every ferret is unique and has it's own personality. Some are independent, and some are very cuddly, but each is an individual and treat to get to know!

They do make good pets just because they are very entertaining and intelligent and not very big. They are not for everyone however, so please, if you are even thinking about getting a ferret, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
Ferrets need a very big cage, special ferret food(ferrets are carnivores and need a diet high in protein and fat, not vegetables and fruits), water bottles, toys, hammocks, bedding, litter for starters. They need annual shots and check ups. They are very curious and get into everything. That gets them into trouble on occasion and they get sick or injured. For instance, most of them love to chew rubbery things which then end up causing bowel obstructions and they may end up needing surgery. Many of them get sick when they get older. There are several ferret diseases(adrenal disease, insulinoma and other cancers, aso) that are curable, but it's not cheap to get them treated and sometimes it's hard to find a ferret knowledgeable vet. Vets are never cheap.
Ferrets require a ferret proof environment to play in, so you have to make sure that at least the room you let them play in is safe for them. You should let them out of the cage for at least 4 hours a day and they do want to play a lot.......WITH you, so make sure you have the time. Ferrets can be litter trained, but won't bury their waste like cats. And unlike cats they are never 100% and they do need "refresher courses" because they will forget.
Ferrets have a distinct odor and no matter what you do you'll never get rid of it completely. You can minimize it by scooping their litter box twice a day and by cleaning their cage thoroughly once a week, incl changing the bedding and hammocks. Along with that go bathes, no more than one a month or less or they'll actually smell worse, and ear cleanings. If you don't feed them fish based food they don't smell any worse than a dog.
Ferrets need their nails clipped frequently too, so they don't get stuck on things like carpet and get hurt that way.
So you see, there's a lot to owning a ferret and I think they deserve the best. They pay you back 100fold with weezil kisses and war dances, but only a happy ferret will dance.
Sorry about being a bit long winded, but I just want to make sure you know what you are getting into. Like I said, do your homework(I recommend "Ferrets for Dummies", great book) and make sure a ferret is for you. You and the ferret will be all the happier for it. Good luck to you, hope all works out.

i have 2 ferrets. they are so entertaining just to watch! they pee and poop in one place and they are very loving. but they smell and they will steel anything that is shiney and hide it somewhere else. once i found 30 tampons hidden under my couch because the wrapper was shiney. and for some reason i found 4 soles out of 8 pairs of my shoes hidden inside y oven. they dont require your attention ALL THE TIME either

i love my ferrets but they can be a handful at times they get into everything but they are funny and very fun to play with. you just have to keep their cage clean and give them a bath regular. we have a leash for ours and take them for walks people get a kick out of seeing that. in the winter my husband likes to but them in the pouch of his hootie and only one time a store manger got mad at us for having a pet in the store and asked us to leave. they are a great pet but just like any animal they can be mean also just treat them good and show them love. and they will entertain you for hours

They are cool but you have to train them to go in a little litter box in one corner. Otherwise they will leave little piles in every corner of the house. They feel great to hold. If you don't feed them enough they will bite you. Also, they are really handy for running wire throught the conduit on your space ship.
