Synthetic Hydrothermal and flux melt are distuinguished apart from natural Emerald by there R.I Refractive Index S.G specific gravity.and Inclusions. If you have access to a Refractometer, scales to determine the S.G and a Microscope dark and light
feild illumination you could with some help
A polariscope to distinguish the optical properties whether it is glass or has the optical character of a crystal
Synthetic Chatham Synthetic Byron Hydrothermal and flux melt are very clean and clear
If you are lucky to find a natural Emerald as clean as a synthetic
stone it would be very rare. Although the cost of synthetic Emeralds can be quite surprising.

hardness 7.5
R.I 1.575 birefringance 0.006
S.G 2.71
Glass is amorphous no crystal shape
Beryl Emerald is a hexagonal crystal

To tell the difference a Gemologist could do a test to tell the difference
If you type in a search in your local area for a gemologist spelt one M for the U.S or two M for Australia Canada England

There is something called a "three phase inclusion" in all emeralds (beryls). You will need someone who has an expertise in gemology to give you a definitive answer. The synthetic has all the same properties as the real but usually only two phases since they are grown in a lab.

Take it to a jeweler and ask, how the heck are we supposed to answer this question. We can't see the stone.

if it cuts glass i think is the best way to test it...
