I heard a horror story about the vein in someones tongue getting pierced by mistake. I won't go into detail. I'm sure you can imagine.

Probably just an urban myth. If you get it done at a reputable place, should be fine.

Apparently it does hurt for a few days though so stock up on soup and ice cream.

sweety do the research your self don't ask for the opinion of closed minded individuals. you will get every horror story every urban legend, every lie in the world. Find a good piercer, not a cheap one, but a reputable, look at his/her portfolio. Ask questions, and go with your gut instinct about the studio. I got mine done the first time, no it didn't hurt, it didn't feel good either, but the placement was too far forward it probably took 15 seconds to pierce and put the jewelery in the clamps hurt worse than the needle. I talk for a living and it never healed so after 3 months i took it out. My current tongue piercing is great it is set further back, that suites me better. This sounds funny but do it. Grab your tongue where you want it pierced and squeeze hard(ya my sis had me to it too) that's about how it feels. The tongue is actually 2 muscles, and a center piercing passes between the connective tissue between the two muscles. OK email me if you have any more questions.

Will hurt for a bit.

But the main thing to be aware of is that your tongue will swell up quite a bit for a while after. You will feel bruised and sore. You may not be able to eat anything for a day or so.

Make sure the person doing it knows what they are doing! If they pierce a vein it is very dangerous. Ensure they check for veins before they start. Some people have a vein in the middle of the tongue and should NOT get it pierced.

Enjoy your piercing!

Goodness! Do not believe the horror stories. It doesn't hurt one bit. It is done very easily and quickly. The only thing is you might be a little annoyed after wards because it will be swollen and make it difficult for you to eat or talk. But that only lasts for a day.
Me and my friend pierced our tongues together and one time she took the ring off for a couple days and it was closed because tongue heals the fastest, and if you want to keep your hole do not ever take your ring off for more than half a day.

*Believe me there is no "constant contact" with the teeth at all. The ring never touches your teeth unless you purposely touch yout teeth with it. Chipped teeth?! Oh give me a break you guys!

**OH MY GOSH! THERE WON'T BE ANY BLEEDING!!

yes it going to hurt, just make sure U go to a good clean place, the last thing U want is and infection in Ur tongue, cos that will make it hurt for even longer, and it dangerous too.

ofter U have it pierced, best thing it to suck on ice lollies, it will help with any swelling, and numb the area a bit.

it will feel a bit strange for a while, and U will talk a little funny for a while too, until U get used to it

You should also consider the long term affects a stud in your tongue will have on your teeth. I have heard of numerous stories of teeth becoming chipped by the constant contact of the metal.

I respect the right of anyone who wishes to pierce or tattoo their bodies. In some cases, I even find it attractive. But there is always a price to pay. You are wise to ask this question. I hope you either heed all of the warnings or have a really good dental plan.

Mine didn't hurt when I got mine done. Make sure that you go to a place that uses either disposable piercing kits or make sure that they sterilize their utensils. Another thing you want to watch for is making sure they do know what they are doing because there is a vein in your tongue that if they hit it it can cause a severe bleed. As long as you go to a recognized shop, you should be fine.

I have heard it does. There are also risks Ive heard of serious brain disorders caused by tongue piercing so I wouldn't do it.I was told about this by a nurse in a hospital where I worked so seriously ,give it some thought.

They numbed mine and pierced it. It didnt hurt when they actually pierced it but it was sore and uncomfortable for about a week after when it was swollen. It usually takes 1-2wks to settle down so get used to eating icecream and soup!! I could eat normally after a few days. Dont drink alcohol before you have it done. I did and it bled more because of it! You'll be fine chick x

Looks like the majority are against the idea. Yes... it hurts. You are having a piece of metal plunged into a piece of muscle not designed for it. There will be bleeding.. pain.. swelling.. and later: chipped teeth... loss of sensitivity... possible complications and for what?
Make sure this is what you want to do.... talk to your doctor and dentist first to see what their opinion is and if you still are going through with it, make sure you go to a reputable artist that knows what he is doing... Good luck.
