II'm a bit confused as Hezbollah keeps saying "it will rebuild" and there's not much mentioning of the Lebanese government. Is there really a Lebanese government?

~40% of people in Lebanon support or are loyal to Hezbollah.

They are a significant political party.

Like many religious organizations they do charity work, although it is with money that is often dirty.

They have more military power than Lebanon and they are highly skilled an professional.

They are not, obviously, powerful enough to prevent a country from coming in and blowing up whatever it wants though. They would like their people to think that they are.

They are in a way, a semi-legitimate deterent force, as far the Lebanese are concerned.

However, they clearly endanger Lebanese peace, without the consent of the Government. Instead a cleric, Hassan Nazralla bassically dictates their actions. He is probably convinced that he is right and may or may not believe in the eradication of Israel as a proper goal. Though I have a feeling he would destroy Israel if he could.

The government is currently does not appear to be taking action to disarm Hezbollah, instead insisting that they not wield weapons in public. Hezbollah, will, of course, do so, it always has.

The government would almost assuredly face civil war if they attempted to forcibly disarm Hezbollah, and it may not work.

I think I should point out that Hezbollah dictates the actions of the government both from within and without. Here, they brought Lebanon into a war. Of course Hezbollah runs the southern section of the country, so perhaps that is the country Israel was going in to couquer.

I don't really care who the Lebanese call the terrorists, I just want to point out, that if it happens again, and the US does butt out, as many Middle Eastern nations would prefer (ya, stop giving them smart bomb so they can go willy-nilly crazy with their home made dumb bomds! Thats so much better!), the war may end with half of Beirut destroyed and a full submission. Thats not really something we want. Historically, however, that is how these things end...

At that point, the civilians ussually determine that the racism is really interfering with their day-to-day, and bother to police themselves, and obey their laws.

yes , but does it make any difference when Hezbollah has got the power , Hezbollah is the most powerful ppl in Lebanon , and more loved than government , cause they defend Lebanon and they really care for the people and they care for helping the people too , besides their government is a bunch of thief's and morons , the good people is always behind , while the Lebanese gov. is begging the cruel world for help Hezbollah ( which doesn't have much money either ) is already helping ,

There is a lebanese government, but it is so weak that organisations like hezbollah have more power and influence in some regions. It can't really afford to assert it's authority because there's a serious threat that it will be overthrown if it p!sses off the wrong people.

Hezbollah army is more powerful than the Lebanese government. Thus, it can declare what they want even without the consent of the Lebanese government.

There is a government in Lebanon but its really weak. Hezbollah is a political party with a lot of money and support in the South. They are giving their supporters assistance and will rebuild the areas hit. However, it will probably be up to the government of Lebanon to rebuild the bridges and highways that were destroyed.

You have to remember that Hizbollah is a Shi'ite organization and receives funding from Iran and Syria. And Lebanon has people believing Islam, Christianity, and therefore not necessarily onnly Shi'ite. The goal that Hizbollah works towards is the same goal thats supported by Iran and Syria. They hate Jews, becoz they are Jews, and becoz they think the Jews are responsible for invading Palestine.

Lebanon is a country that needs diplomacy and order to function as a country first. They have to support all of the people living in Lebanon, who are not just Shi'ite, but also Christians.

So, Hizbollah is more powerful than Lebanon.

You're question illustrates Israel's dilemma. It is practically surrounded by groups of fanatical assassins who unite only against the Jews. Some of these groups are in government and some control governments. If the state of Israel wasn't there they'd be fighting amongst themselves. You just cannot educate pork as the saying goes
