THE MAIN REASON? Because it is one of VERY few countries allowed to arm itself with nuclear weapons under the nuclear non proliferation treaty. There are in fact 5 of them US, Russia, France, UK and China...

ALSO THOUGH...Not to mention the fact that the UK is supposed to have the most elite special forces in the world, with which even the american special forces train and take advice from.

The UK is also part of G8, the 8 richest countries in the world...
Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States... together representing 65% of the worlds economy...

It also has the second largest naval fleet in the world, and lets face it nuclear subs and air craft carriers are pretty damn dangerous in a war...

Politically the UK is also a member of NATO (an agreemenet of alliance between 26 nations, including 3 of those 5 who can be nuclear armed) and one of the original 51 member states of the united nations...

The united nations recognises the nuclear non proliferation treaty and as such the UK and the other 4 members may not use their nuclear weapons offensively... if another country were to however the nuclear non proliferation treaty allows the UK to retaliate, this would be a legal retaliation with nuclear force, whereas the attact would have been illegal (although this would probably never happen)... this makes the UK pretty powerful...

I hope this answers ur question...

It's stupid to think anyone is a world power. Power does not come from history but it does come from culture and from the people of that country.

After series of terrorist attacks carried by some of its own people (foiled attack on aircrafts), can England actually think that way. I think its an old thinking just because of its history.

In todays N-world, nobody is a true superpower. Only the one who can bring order and peace to the world can be termed a superpower.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And a word for those who support terrorism- its stupid that you would get heaven by killing innocent people, there is no such thing. You are all just filthy murderers, nothing else.
