I (my family)recently moved to a house, and we've been having problems with the toilet not flushing completely. A plumber came and cleared out the sewer line, but its doing it again. Weve heard it could be a clogged vent, but we cant find it. Any suggestions?

your main vent, or stack is a 3 inch black pipe that comes out the roof, check there. You should also check the toilet for lime build up from hard water, it won't flush well if it is built up, you could treat it with a deliming solution(acid)

I realy doubt it's the vent.
If it was a plugged vent, when you flushed, the water in the sewer pipe would create a vacume and you would have a serious sucking sound coming thru the toilet bowl as soon as you flushed as the water made it's way down thru the sewer pipes.

If you are on a septic system, it may simply be there is too much water going into the septic tank than it can handle.

Is it like this ALL the time, or does it flush fine first thing in the morning before you take a shower.

If it's always like that, I'd say you have a plugged sewer line.
If it flushes OK in the morning, then I'd say you have a full septic tank.

If you are on city sewer........Uhhhh........I don't know.

Look at your roof and you will see a few pipes sticking through the roof. Most of these pipes will be sewer vent pipes (although there may be vents for your gas appliances but they are larger) You will have to run a drain auger down these pipes to clear them of the bird nests and allow air to reach the drain lines so you have free flow of the water through them.

Basically, the vent is usually through the roof but try someplace else like, outside. SOme dirt may have been stuck.

If you have a newer type water saver toilet; 1.5 gal , verses the older 3.0 gal type this may well be your problem. If it is, you'll have to get use to the inconvience of flushing it more than once.
