father always wish to give her daughter form his property. if parents give her daughter from his property duly registered with court, it may reduce the dowry problem as well as property dispute. though parents are free to give more share when they like in future. hence dowry given as part of property can be the solution of many problems.

“In societies where payment of dowry is common, unmarried women are seen to attract stigma, and tarnish the family reputation, so it is in the bride's family's interest to marry off their daughter as soon as she is eligible. In some areas where this is practised, the size of the necessary dowry is directly proportional to the groom's social status, thus making it virtually impossible for lower class women to marry into upper class families. In some cases where a woman's family is too poor to afford any dowry whatsoever, she is either forbidden from ever marrying, or at most becomes a concubine to a richer man who can afford to support a large household. Dowries have been part of civil law in almost all countries, Europe included. Dowries were important components of Roman marriages.”

From the above definition of the dowry system, I can only suggest that it is stupid, outdated, and discriminatory! It certainly doesn’t encourage ‘respect’ for women, and is in fact, very belittling of them!

I’ll choose ‘marrying for love’ any day!!!

Dowry system is practiced in India in many different forms, but it is observed recently that many a times the girl's side misguides the whole public and the legal and social system by putting false blames on her husband for dowry harassment. In urban educated families dowry issues has been massively misused, the girl side puts false allegations on husband for demanding dowry. It is done to extract large sum of alimony and to harass the husband due to stringent laws. The false complaints for dowry harassment is registered by wife for which no evidence is required and on that basis only husband and his relatives that also include his unmarried sisters, mother, sister-in-law, they go to jail. Lawyers say that there are more cases of misuse of dowry law than the actual ones in the educated urban families, to an extent that it is misused in 90% of cases.
