Let the dialogue move you to the emotional point. Don't distance yourself from the character you are playing by think of things in your past. You must connect to the text and the situation the character you are playing is in to your own emotions. In other words, you should be empathic to the character's plight. If it does not move you to tears then you need to find another way to convey sadness. Not every time someone is sad do they cry, other ways for dealing with it is anger, laughter, or silence. If you "fake" cry on stage, your cheat yourself and the audience. Let the character become part of you and see where it takes you. Don't worry about the crying, worry about the connecting to the character.

Try feeling what the character you are playing would really feel like going thru where he, or she is at that time in their life. Then try to relate it to how you felt going thru similar things in your life. Then ad a dose of despair and agony, and that should help get you there.
If it sounds like a bit of overkill, that's fine. Remember from the vantage point of the audience it may help. Over the top sometimes in live plays works.

well what i had to do in high school is think about the absolute worst thing in your life happening like your parents dying ect.....the good thing about stage acting is that you dont really have to have real tears cause the audience cant see them anyways you only have to sound like you are crying but if you want real tears think about the saddest moment for you that you can imagine break a leg :P

Just do what one guy in our musical did last year, take a small bottle of eye drops then put them in your hands. When you go to put your face in your hands(like crying) squirt them in your eyes. It will make your eyes red like crying and you may even shed a few tears from squirting them in the eye. Good luck!

I think you have to train yourself to cry on demand. After a while, you should be able to switch it on and off as you like.
Try to really get into the role you are playing and feel like the person you are playing. When the person is sad, you should feel sad too and it should make it easier to cry.

This calls for actual acting and putting yourself fully in your character's shoes. Think about why they are crying and really try to feel their distress.

Think of a sad situation, if it makes you happy because your crush is watching, imagine if he did something that made you sad, then the tears will start flowin'. It works for me.
