I was painfully thin when I met my husband (9 1/2 stone at 5'8"), but, after 5 years and two kids I have a little more 'meat' on me - he prefers me this way and that's fine by me!
I think women are fed a diet (no pun intended) of stick thin celebrities in the gossip magazines and we're supposed to aspire to that body shape. Part of it comes from the fashion industry where designers use tall, thin women who look like boys (because many male designers are gay!). But let's face it, it's healthier to be thin than fat!

hi ya i have been a size 6/8 i wasn't happy i couldn't find anything to wear as every just hang there i didn't have any boobs. I have been the uk average 10/12 this was ok but my boobs weren't big enough for me. By the way during these sizes my age range were 16-23. now i am a size 16 due to having 3 children so close together i am happy i have boobs which i am happy with i wish my tummy was a little flatter i am not fat just one layer of saggy skin (Due to the children) Ideally i would like to be a 14 waist as there are more clothes for women size 14. So my answer to you question is it is the fashion industry saying smaller is better which it is not trust me. i think the fashion industry should have larger women on their magazines real women average women 12/14 UK as i think this will help a lot. My hubby loves me no matter what but he does prefer me with a bit more meat on my bones i.e 14 as he knows i am overweight. Sorry to ramble on.

No, we don't! Read all the answers, and see that the general consensus is for shapely, not scrawny. All surveys and polls end up with the same result; husbands are always telling their wives that they are perfect as they are, etc, etc.
So the fact that so many women still aspire to be thin just proves that women never listen to men!

Pete Sweet hit the nail right on the head. We don't try to be skinny for men, we try to be skinny for other women. We feel driven to look a certain way because of the way we want other women to see us. I know that before I was married and I'd go out with a group of girls, we were all trying to look better than the other, we wanted to prove we could look better and cause others to feel jealous of how we looked. All I know is that I was never stick thin, I was always curvy, and I have never, ever had a problem getting attention from men, they seemed to like me just fine, and when I met my husband he liked me just fine too, curves and all. I hate to see those skinny chicks in magazines. They don't look good at all, and no, I'm not jealous, I would never want to look like that!

Think men like women that are slim with a bit of meat (especially places like the chest and the buttocks), but as I mention before, men are visual cretures, so women are aspire to look slim. Hoever, men also can tell a bit about the women if the woman is slim or fat, one thing they can conclude from a fat gal is that the gal eats a lot.... (no offence to the fat gals out there, just that it is so sterotyping in this world)

I think that everyone has a weight and shape that suits them and I think that if you are under this size, it doesn't look attractive. For example, Kylie Minogue has a great figure and is very slim, but it is right for her. Geri Halliwell lost a lot of weight and is about the same height as Kylie, but it didn't look right on her, which fortunately, she realised herself and got back to her original shape. I personally feel that Victoria Beckham is too thin and it doesn't look right. I saw a picture the other day from when the Spice Girls first started and I had forgotten just how gorgeous she looked in those days. J-Lo, for God's sake, don't even think about a diet!

No not stick thin women but not fat women either. Curvy is good. I think most of the problems come from the magazines that ye buy. I was looking through one with my girlfriend the other day and all that was in it was pictures of women and whether they looked hot or not. This is totally different to guys magazines whereby there are no pictures of guys but loads of pictures of girls. Personally I cant understand why girls buy magazines with pictures of other girls in it - why not follow the magazines for guys approach and have loads of pictures of guys in it and none of girls. That way I'm sure you would enjoy it more and wouldn't feel half as self conscious about yourselves. Enjoy life and stop worrying about what other people think.

Im sick of seeing stick thin women on tv and in mags. Its like telling every girl to BE like that because they are getting there pics taken looking like that. Girls look nice if they are womanly, curvy and a bit of fat in the right places on them. Its just a healthy look. Stick thin, there are no curves and from behind you'd look like a man (no offence to anyone). I'd day 10-14 is a healthy size. just my opinion x

Some of them yes, some no. It´s a matter of taste. The general view though is that thin women are more fancy than fat ones which is based mainly on TV standards but is not actually the case.....
