29 years ago... I find it hard to remember yesterday. The day Elvis died, I have no problem remembering where and what I was doing. I, at 15 and visiting my aunt in Daytona Beach FL, we were on our way to the Piggly Wiggly to do a little shopping for dinner. Aunt Judy and I were stopped at a red light in her Ford Grand Torino, on Ridgewood ave and 6th st. when the announcement was broadcast on the radio, she burst out into tears, I just looked at her as if she were nuts, crying about the death of someone she didn't know... and I mean it was like Niagara Falls in that car.

Thanks for the question... I miss aunt Judy

On holiday at the seaside near Rhyl. Robin Hood camp. All the children of the 70's in the North West will know where this is.

I remember my mum telling us that she'd heard it on the radio in the caravan whilst we were at the amusement arcade.

To be honest it didn't really mean that much to me, but back in school after the summer holiday, one of the girls in my form would still cry if anyone mentioned that he'd died

I was at sea on the U.S.S. Enterprise and in the Indian Ocean and can remember not being surprised at all. I had seen him in concert at the Hilton in Las Vegas before that and he didn't look good. I watched him go down hill physically those last few years and it seemed rather surreal the way he abused his body. It was a sad ending.

I know exactly what I was doing then. It was raining in my hometown, (Cincinnati). After school my mother took myself and my sisters shopping at S.S. Kresge. I bought a Reds t-shirt . I was putting it on when I heard that the "King" was indeed dead. The world of music could especially use him now.

Elvis isn't dead. He just went home. And hopefully, he will stay there. WHY CAN"T WE LET THE CELEBRITIES REST IN PEACE? C'mon folks, Diana could use some down time as well.

I have no idea but I do remember my mum bursting into tears a lot. Too young to understand probably. Kurt Cobains death had more effect on me.

my entire family (30 of us at least) were in the house watching 'roots'. i couldn't hear the t.v. over all the crying crap. i remember asking my mom (i was 9) why everyone is so upset that he killed himself. i thought that is was the most selfish thing i had ever heard of at that time.
