As long as you do not mean it in a negative way and do not hate Australian men, then I would say most definately no. You are just making an observation, and whether right or wrong, as long as you have no hidden agenda, then no it is not racist. The key word "often" says to me that this statement is not racist because you are not saying it to be true for ALL of them. If anyone is to say that your comment is racist, then I would also challenge them to consider that how they are portrayed in films could possibly be considered racist also. Peace

No, how is that racist? Did you make an innocent remark and get called a racist? I hate people who do that!

That said, I can't think of any Australian films that have particularly loud male characters. Apart from Chopper.

And if you think Australian men are quiet in person, you obviously haven't heard the drunkards in the park behind us...

Racist...I don't think so.
Australian men frequently are secretly gentlemen of the old school, they are frequently secretly bisexual too as I found out from personal experience in my late teens...less hangups I guess..maybe it's the warmer weather, beaches, less clothes, more places to be private etc, maybe they are just happier and more accepting of human nature generally.
But there are always the yahoos too...yes it's also an old OZ / NZ term meaning a lout.

Personally I don't find that remark racist at all. Film portrayals are always stereotypes and aren't usually accurate, so I don't see any problems with that.

An individual's particular behaviour perhaps has a base on his/her culture, education level or the way they made up their minds but it has nothing to do with their racial identity. So,it's not racism.
