Canon PIXMA ip4200.
Resonable priced ink in transparent tanks,
excellent print quality,
two black ink tanks - one for text and one for photos,
quiet,
fast (extremely fast black and white text printing),
compact,
2 paper trays for different media,
CD face printing,
double sided printing,
boarderless printing,
very reliable.
A very nice package and not to pricey either - £100 ish.
I'm a photography student and I've used this printer (with my lovely mac) for a lot of display prints.

Good luck!

I sell consumer electronics and Id also recommend the HP PSC range, whilst you might not be able to pick up the ink for it just as cheap as you can for epson it is a more reliable printer.
I find that having the paper feed from the bottem also tends to make printers more reliable.
In saying all that the D88 isnt *too* bad a printer, if the device is <1 year old then it back to your retailer explaining the imperfections and there is a chance they will give you an exchange/credit.
P.S if you have been using cheap ink then you have probably wrecked the print heads which is why the performance isnt great.

I strongly suggest that you look for a printer which does not require chipped cartridges. You will then be able to use third party inks and save a great deal of money. New Lexmark and Cannon printers are chipped.
I recently bought an aolder Cannon Pixma iP4000 off eBay which is reasonable for photos, prints CD's, has automatic double sided printing and a proper paper feed tray. I can get hold of 3 full sets of cartridges for about $20US.

I'd go with HP or canon laser printers. Both are good and you can get good prices on the reman toners and such. You can get some great all in ones. You just have to look around and maybe ask a store specialising in that stuff. If you're in the uk I don't mean currys or pcworld etc.... they're expensive and people don't know what they're talking about. Ask in the smaller stores...... hint hint.....

Been using Deskjets from HP for years, they have larger print cartridges and they seem to cover a lot of models with the same few replacements. When one finally goes bad, pitch it and go get another one. You might check out www.hp.com to see what specials they have.
