i AM a teacher currently looking for another career. It is very true to say that being qualified as a teacher provides you with many open doors. The key is to list all of the skills you developed as a teacher and think about how they could be transferable to another career. For example your ability to observe and assess the children, make detailed and organised records of this information and then use it to inform your future planning are highly transferable skills. Likewise your ability to question and to talk in front of groups of people are also good transferable skills. Your ability to work under pressure, to make important decissions, your ability to guide and influence others. I am currently applying for a position as a trainee financial adviser and I have had to consider all of these skills and more to convince them i am able to perform the job and be an asset to their company. If you want more help feel free to e mail me: bathrugby78 (at) hotmail (dot) co (dot) uk :) I am not an expert in careers advice but I am sure we can help each other :)

Otherwise register here www.careersserviceni.com and use the career match link... it provides about 120 questions in groups and at each stage narrows down a selection of suggested careers based on your likes, dislikes and personality... mainly look for ones which provide 'on the job' training, and be prepared for a salary cut while you train or perhaps ones which do not require training (although non skilled jobs usually have a lot less pay attached and I doubt you want to take a step DOWN the salaray ladder in the long term)...

i REALLY hope this helps because i know exactly how you are feeling now and all the very best of luck to you!

I am a teacher and it seems I am in the same boat. I am burned out and want to change my career. I have actually applied to be an education specialist for hospitals and that deals with their trainings. I you still want to work in an education related field, there are all kinds of jobs in human resources. I also started my own businesses so that I can work for myself. A lot of teachers are in my business, I even know an assistant principal that does my business, so that is another option.

There are many opportunities for Government employees to transfer to other Government jobs. In my local town it appears that teachers can also simultaneously

a) Run a bar/inn
b) Play music in a commercial band
c) Work in the local privately run gym based at the school
d) Run a bed and breakfast opportunity

However, they usually have to have at least one daughter before they can do any of these things.

That's a stupid question. Other than teach, there is no other jobs you could do using your qualifications. If you don't want to teach, don't become a teacher.
