Teenagers have always been thinking of commiting suicide.
Main reasons? First of all death is very far away and does not scare them; they have nothing to leave behind that would give them a motive to live like children or a career; don't forget that teenage is the period when yound people start facing difficult situations, being obliged to make decisions and suffer the consequenses - this hurts most of the time, especially when the decisions are wrong... it's decouraging. This, combined with the arrogance of the age, is double hurting...
So, you see, it's not a modern phenomenon; have you ever read Emily Bronte's novels?
