Sounds like you still miss her.

To fully answer this, one must first know that dreams are simply messages from the subconscious.

It really all depends on what is going on with your ex, but it normaly means that there is something left undone.

If you and her are in good standing it could me something undone with someone else... the fact that it's an "ex" plays that part... "undone".

If she just pops up in your dreams it may mean that you miss her company, or that you wish that your relationship with her currently would be better than it is.

I sugest keeping a journal of the dreams with her in them, then google dream meanings to find the symbols.

Since you haven't seen her since 2001, it more than likely means that you wish to reconnect with her on a plutonic level.

You know its weird....same here! I broke up with my ex badly about 2 years ago. We were together for 5 years but he was abusive and I finally got the courage and brains to leave. And I dream about him often. Not like every night but often enough. And I am not happily married but I still have these dreams. My ex and I don't talk or even live in the same state anymore. I don't miss him. Of course I don't wish anything bad/wrong to happen to him but I could care less about him. I know I don't love him so I have no idea why these dreams occur. Maybe its your ex thinking about you and...you know, I just don't know but I go through it too!

Interpret Your Dreams on this site all the meanings without having to look them up never mind the...Title...of the web-site. http://www.freakydreams.com/ because Good Dreams also can be Interpreted.
Dreaming is a place of possibility and creation, a land of futures that might come and pasts that never were. It is also a land of nightmares.
It constantly changes as people fall asleep and shape parts of it, then wake up and their dreams dissolve back into mist. A dreams dictionary always helps ( for other descriptions needed ). http://myjellybean.com/dream/pagey.html
Did you know you can make yourself dream anything its called...Lucid Dreaming which this site will explains along with some other questions about dreaming. http://www.dreams.ca/

Maybe it's more about mentally refering back to a time in your life where you were happier or something is unresolved. If the two of you had a very strong bond perhaps there might be a problem on her side or she's thinking about you a lot? The list of possibilities is endless & entirely personal to your circumstance.

Remember when trying to understand a dream not to focus on the images in the dream, but rather the feelings you experienced during it. That is more telling regarding what motivates a dream. Most likely you are having a recurring feeling in these dreams. What is the feeling?

Because you still think of her. If there is still love for her or you have some loose strings, she is sure to show up in your dreams. I still have dreams now and then of my first love and I haven't seen her in over thirty years. We definitly had some loose strings.

Dreams are just the brain sorting out and reprocessing old memories - a bit like tidying out the attic, looking through old photographs and so on. Don't read any significance into it.

There's no real way to answer that. The human brain works in odd ways...especially while dreaming. I occasionally find that people from my past turn up in my dreams inexplicably.
