People DO bang the end of the cigarette pack because they think that it packs the tobacco tighter. Whether or not it works, is a different story and a different question. But you didn't ask IF it packs the tobacco tighter. You asked WHY. And that's WHY. You don't like that answer? Get over it!

If you pack em the tobacco IS PACKED down. hence the name. Some people, mostly stupid teenagers, don't do this correctly and it is annoying in it's own way. however the correct way of packing one's smokes is necessary to avoid burning ashes from flying into your eyes when driving and smoking, and it makes it harder for the cherry (burning part) to come off halfway through. If you don't believe me, then start smoking. buy a pack and open it right away. drive and smoke at the same time with your window cracked ever so slightly, and flick the ash out of the window for every cig you smoke in your moving vehicle, i guarantee that you will gain a new appreciation for that seemingly annoying, most definitely helpful method of smoking and not getting burned on the pupils.

I agree it is annoying to hear but supposedly it does pack the tobacco. What the difference is in flavor is a question I've always had.
Just as annoying is the snapping of gum and clicking casino chips.

It does pack it tighter if you do it right. What's annoying is when I see a kid doing it, then he'll turn the pack over and pack it the other way too. His smokes prolly just fall apart.

Some people think it does pack the tobacco tighter....I don't smoke cigs though so I don't know. My X use to do it and thats what he told me...packs it tighter.

I guess the loose tobacoo could get to the top of the pack. It could be a club of some sort.

maybe they are mad, at the cigaretts for getting them addicted, because it is a habbit that shortens life, and is dangerous, and expensive, and the monKey on their back.

yes it does, and you can pack them all the way down to half if you do it long enough
