hi, i had depression in my mid twenties after my brothers death. His death also triggered all sorts of unresolved problems i experienced as a teenager. My head was truly mashed and i even though about suicide as i'de had enough of everything (never did anything though, thank god (i dont like pain)). I cut myself off from everyone for weeks on end, i basically disappeared, i was snappy, very impatient and wasnt a nice person, I was on self destruct, nothing mattered and i didnt care about anything. My problem was that i never spoke to anyone about my teenage years or how my brothers death affected me because at both these stages i was carrying everyone else emotionally....bad move because no one ever see's how you are affected, they consider you the strong one although you are a crumbled mess inside and cannot make sense of things. I snapped out of my depression when i became pregnant in my late twenties, reality hit me like a ton of bricks...i had someone else to consider and have never looked back. Yes, sometimes i get upset thinking of my brother, but i look at my son and think of the now and future. I now help people who have been in worse/similar situations as ive been in, it makes a difference.

If you think there is something wrong, talk to someone, it doesnt make you vunerable or means you cant cope, we all go through it at some point all-be-it in different ways.

An unfortunate part of dealing with or not dealing with life.

I've suffered depression for years. Not as bad as I used to be, but I sometimes go down again even now. Its just one of those situations where you let difficulties, anguish, disappointment, disillusion or frustration at being helpless with no control overwhelm you.

Only advice I can give though to anyone suffering, is you have to open your eyes, because there are times when you cant see the woods for the trees. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask. Its better to feel supported than alone. And you'll be surprised how much people who love you really do care.

I did suffer from depression. For me it all started after my father died. I was 11 years old at the time. Although I was never diagnosed with depression and treated for it looking back I'm convinced that I did have it. I went through periods of not wanting to be here anymore (I didn't actually do anything about this), constant crying, not talking to people, being angry all the time and generally being a loner. The only comfort I felt I had was my dog who gave me hugs when I felt really down. My depression ended when I was in my late 20's when I finally learnt to let go of everything that happened. And I have a medium to thank for that for bringing me a message from my father. The message made me realise that I had to let him go and get on with my life.

I suffered with depression when I hurt my back and had to stop working. I was depressed for a few years. I have been on quite a few medications, but I found that amiltryptiline really helped me, and it is also effective as a painkiller, and I just take a low dose as a painkiller now, so personally I feel that my depression has gone.

I battled depression for over a year after a miscarriage and then infertility. I worked through it with counseling and vitamins. I still have bouts of it sometimes when I am around babies and small children. It seems like an uphill battle, but I am hanging in there.

I have it.
I also believe that it is a mental problem that can not be fixed and that people and doctors jump to the conclusion that they are depressed when in actual fact they are just going through a bad time or are run down.
Depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain it can not be fully cured.

I had it it my final year at college. I had had it for 2 years but was misdiagnosed. It was bought on by the pressure of my final year & past issues I had never dealt with& bf trouble. I had anti-depressants which worked. I rpt part of my year & did much better.
