Varies by age. Adults used to be recommended to have 8 hours a night, but now studies have shown that people who sleep 7 hours a night rather than 8 actually live longer!
Personally I sleep either very little, like 20 minutes or so (grr insomnia) or up to 14 hours...

Around 8 hours is the average, but it depends a lot on your age. For example, newborn babis sleep almost 24 hours a day, while the elder only need 5 or so.
It also depends on each person. I know people who can sleep a lot. Personally I need 9-10 hours.
