Black eyeliner?

I'm indian, with long black hair and brown eyes. I just started wearing black eyeiner recently. I've noticed makes my eyes look smaller, and frankly speaking, it just looks strange on me. Is black eyeliner too heavy, or should I be using a lighter colour? Can you please suggest various colours that might look better on me?

Black eyeliner can be harsh. And, if you are lining both your upper and lower lids, it can close in your eyes.
I suggest a dark brown, dark grey or a deep plum. Line your upper lids, but not the bottom. Don't ring your eyes in liner. A powder liner is softer than a liquid. And easier to apply. You could also try a very dark colour on the upper lids and a very soft, lighter colour on the lower.

Make sure you are putting the black eye liner on correctly. For different shapes of eyes its different. If you eyes are small, line only the top lash line and 1/4 beginning from the outside of your bottom lash. It's good to use a q-tip(earbud) to correct any mistakes. Also, black is too dark during the day, try a dark brown in the day and black when you are going out at night. Another tip when applying makeup is to do it in natural sunlight, so that you know how you really look when you are outside.

I've always thought black eyeliner looked bad on people with dark hair and eyes like myself. Dark eyeliner does make your eyes appear smaller. A lighter shade opens them up and makes them POP!
I would skip it altogether, and concentrate more on the eyeshadow, which should be lighter, more subtle shades to make your eyes stand out.
Also, concentrate on your lips, which you can get by with just a gloss with some shimmer in it and that would look pretty against your dark hair.

Black has been know to make things look smaller. I would advise you to wear a brown or even smoke liner and do not draw it all the way across the bottom or top...just 1/4 - 1/2 across and the smooth it out with the back side of the pencil or a liner sponge. Try it...it's looks great.

I think it's because you're doing it wrong. Start with the upper lid, put a line on the outside on your lid, first put just on the roots of your eyelashes and then you can make it a little thicker if you want and even curl the lines and make it longer on the corners of your eye.
You can just leave it here or if you want you can put the eyeliner on the bottom lid too. But for this one start with a white pencil and paint the inside of your lower lid frame. With this concern you have, I'd say never do this with a black liner. Instead put the black outside of your lid (just like y ou did on your upper lid) But this has to be very subtle, use very little and make sure it won't look like a perfect line, use your finger tip to smudge a little and use a q-tip to clean up the unnecessary black.

I love black liner too but I m blonde with green eyes.
U should try dark blues violets and greens.
U must be applying it the wrong way just put a thin line on ur upper eye lid

If you want your eyes to look bigger than don't do eyeliner all the way at the bottom of the eye. And you can use a dark brown eye shadow as a eyeliner, its more defined.

Don't wear black eyeliner honey! You want your eyes to pop, not shrink. Try using brighter shades like light greens, light pinks, light blues, and pastel colors. You will get much better results.

I use black eyeliner too, but I'm blond and with big hazel eyes. I think one should have big eyes in order to look good with an eyeliner. If you think your eyes look small, try to wear only eyeshadow and mascara.

Do you use it all around you eyes? Try using it just on your eyelid, but not all around your eye.. if you put it on the bottom, it'll close up your eye.

I don't think you need to use a different color, personally, I think black eyeliner looks great on everyone (except boys)
