I am aspiring to become a game designer. A PAID gamedesigner. I want to go to my office every day and make games to sell. This little dream of mine just might go down the tubes because of Microsoft. I'm worried because Microsoft has a new project to allow anyone to make a game at home for the xbox360 and put it online for everyone to download and play. The worst part is, xbox wont pay them a dime!! Will this set a new trend for gaming industries? Are we going to say farewell to professionally made games forever? I want to be paid to do this, but I'm afraid this could lead to my dream's demise. :( What are your thoughts?

Personally i don't think that the Xbox Live arcade will destroy the gaming industry as we know it. Sure it allows for small developers to put out cheep games to put in their portfolio even if MS doesn't pay them a dime. If anything i think it will be a great way for new talent to enter the industry. It won't take over the big names in gaming like EA, Rockstar, Lucas Arts, and others because these small developers don't have the tools to build games like Halo, God of War, or Star Wars Battlefront. Those are the types of games that people look for. These live arcade games are really nostalgic gaming experiences for the most part. They bring the gamer back to the old coin op days for maybe 10 to 15 minutes out of the day nothing more. the only way i can see the gaming industry falling to this "free development" system is if the games you are putting out lack the quality of game play people want with the best possable graphics possable on the respected gaming system.
