i switched my girlfriend's laptop from cable net connection to wireless! victory it worked....! whoo hoo... (short lived)

three hours later, the power pack keeps failing. the computer keeps freezing and requiring forced shutdown. then an hour after that the power pack fades from power completely... no more laptop power.

how is this possible?

Very unlikely that the card is causing the powerpack to fail unless it is faulty. Even if it were faulty then heat generated from such current would be noticable.

Hate to say the obvious but have you checked that the mains power supply is switched on and plugged in properly? Three hours seems about right for battery duration.

It shouldn't really make a difference since the management of power within the laptop will have been designed with additional hardware such as Wi-Fi cards in mind. Does the same problem occur when you remove the card from the laptop?

I can't think it would, but who knows? Did u try switching it back to see if it still happens. Also, maybe something wrong w/ your gateway server, but it's just a guess. Good luck.
