If it's the format it should be something like an opening statement declaring what you are going to say, then say it all in three to five paragraphs, then have a closing statement in which you give your own thoughts on the subject. Otherwise Google search essay structures or something like that, make sure it is a good academic site though.

The best thing to do would be to email your professor or go to his/her office hours and ask about the format he/she would like you to use. Professors often have different sets of expectations, so it's important to learn these as soon as possible (preferably before getting graded on something!). For more general writing assistance, most schools have a writing lab where you can go for help with issues of formatting and editing. If it's research that's causing a problem, again talk to your professor for ideas about where to start.

Hierrachy is nominal and subjective. Approach your easy with as a no basis differential related essay and you will be surprised that it just rolls.
