12 men (all american) have walked on the Moon. There were 6 successful manned missions to the Moon. In each, 3 astronauts went, 2 of those three got to take the lander to the Moon's surface while the third stayed in the orbiter waiting the other two's return. All this happened between 1969 and 1972. No people have been sent back since, but we have sent unmanned space craft there since.
