primer paint, is a rust preventative. I also heard that passing electricity through a nail while its in salt water it has some chemical bonding effect.

Rust occurs due to Iron's (Fe) reaction with oxygen (O2) and water (H20) ... we can prevent an iron nail from rusting by coating it...so in doesnt come in contact with these two... we can coat it with another metal or maybe paint it .... that ll do the trick. Good luck

or soak in kerosene or some other oil
