Fear should not be used by managers as a means of motivating employees. If done so, it ll create a gap between the employer and the employee. And it ll result in a fall of their performance and trustworthiness. Like Stephen R. Covey says, one must learn to synergize and work in a team. You can bring the horse to the river but you can't make it drink the water. Motivation must be induced such that it comes from within. Give respect to gain it back... Treat them they way you want them to treat you... Foundations made of trust are the strongest !!! Only then can an employer sleep soundly knowing that his employees will be working hard honestly no matter what :P ...

This is a ploy used by many managers who feel threatened by their lack of self confidence. This is a defense mechanism. It is not a trait found in an effective manager. I have come across this behavior many times and feel sorry for this person. An effective manager will enlist the talents of those around them and lead as a team.

A manager can control the fear of thier employees . A manager can not control the goodwill of thier employees . The manager should forsake that which they can not control and strive for what they can .

Never. Fear does not allow people to learn and grow. Any employer who does not want growth in his or her employees should not be in management.

If you want them to hate you. If enough of them complain about you or quit because of you, your job might be in jeopardy.
