So far : 200 episodes, 10 seasons, 3 SGC Generals, 1 continuing timeline. Very soon there will be more SG1 episodes than the Original Star Trek(with Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura and Scott) and Star Trek : The Next Gereation(with Picard, Riker, Data, Troi, LaForge and Crusher) combined. SG1 has no need for theater released movies. There have been story arcs that last more than 3 hours (4 + episodes).

There are still 3 of the main characters in the series since the begining.

Put SG1 on the "big" screen longer than a Star Wars movie and it would still feel rushed and incomplete. Is there any reason why , with acting and writing continuing to be great, that we'll be talking about the 20th season of SG1 and the 10th Season of SG: Atlantis?

Well, if the actors have their way, it will go as long as they're still having fun doing it.

So far, the stories are still interesting and deep and quite fun despite some minor surface annoyances like the oft-repeated reappearance of Super Sam. Mitchell is doing much, much better this season, now that he realizes that all his enthusiasm can't make up for the experience the rest of the team brings to the table.

Claudia Black is bringing a quirky unpredicatability to the show that keeps me in stitches even at her most annoying. It's actually quite fun to see Daniel at an about-face from his character in the first few seasons: now HE's the one trying to teach someone about chain of command and military protocol while reaching out a hand to snag Vala from running off somewhere in pursuit of something shiny.

Atlantis, however, still does not hold my interest. Teyla's too annoying, Weir too wishy-washy, and Sheppard is even more insubordinate than even Jack had ever considered being. Rodney, Zelenka, Beckett, and Ronin are all good fun, though.

While I have been a huge fan of Stargate Sg1 for 4 years and went to a convention even I'm afraid the series won't last much longer. Season 10 so far has been way below expectations. Mitchell just can't keep it going like Oneill did. The team dynamic changed to match Atlantis which I wasn't a fan of, the two shows now are so similar that I can barely tell the difference. Mitchell is too cocky and the other members of sg1 let him be, which is so not typical. Remember Jonas Quinn? I really enjoyed his character yet everyone hated him. The producers made a mistake in keeping Claudia, Beau and Ben full time and I feel they will be the undoing. And since when is stargate star trek? That was the aspect I liked about stargate, it took place in our time with our current level of technology.. now it's becoming another andromeda, farscape or star trek. So my bet is it will last this season and if we're lucky one more but that's it.

i think as long as they keep the characters around it will do ok. I wouldn't mind seeing Vala being relegated to a guest appearance every now and then. I like Mitchell. Hes no O'Niell but he has his moments. I think it's good they took Sam out of the leadership role. She was too much brain not enough balls. Jackson and Teal'c are great. I like Jackson and I like the changes we've seen over the last 10 years. I'm still getting used to Teal'c w/ hair though. I say bring back Hammond of Texas though.
Atlantis is alright. It's trying too hard to be SG-1 though. I kind of got annoyed that they have their own version of "Replicators" now. I thought the show was better when they were on their own and cut off from Earth. Now with the Daedelus and the ZPM it's lost some of it's allure. I still enjoy it and I like the characters, although Tayla is a bit weak. Rodney is cool just because he's such a smart ***. I think they're trying to make Wier and Sheppard have the same tensions as Jack and Sam but I hope not.

In conclusion, as long as they're on I'll watch them. As long as they're entertainng they'll stay on. As long as they don't get old they'll stay entertaining. Also, I can't wait for Battlestar Gallactica to come back either. Sci-Fi kills my Friday night social life...

SG-1 will last as long as the ratings do. And even though I still watch, I prefer the older episdoes. Now, it seems like they're forcing storylines. I can deal with the G'Oauld and the Wraith, but these religious nuts taking over worlds are already on my nerves. And I want to see more of General O'Neal. He's one of the reasons I watched in the first place. Oh yeah, I HATE that Claudia character. She does SO not belong.

Since they've invented a new enemy for SG1 with the Ori, I guess it could go on for another two or three seasons.

Atlantis is only starting its third season, but how much can they do with the Wraith before it gets boring?

If they can keep the writing fresh and the characters interesting,
I'll keep watching. The trouble is, sometimes the writers get
tired of it all and go to the big book of TV plots and then the
show gets old and boring. But so far they are doing a great
job so let's keep hoping they can keep it up.

I think both shows will go on for a few more years. Richard Dean Anderson is returning for a few guest shots on both,so that should give them a boost for a while. I hear that there are discussions going on about doing a third Stargate series,so the franchise will be around for a while.

I'm not a big watcher of this show. I wish I had started earlier, and I wish I would remember to watch it.

You're in luck, though. It airs on Sci-Fi, a cable network, so the rating can be somewhat low and it will still be production. However, I believe it's still a popular show, so I don't think it's going anywhere soon.

So there'll be plenty of time for you to catch reruns and me to see them for the first time. Thank God for cable.
