I wouldn't say that they are more popular. Its lessening but still prevalent in certain countries like India. As Asian countries become more globalised and modern, so's their citizens. Conservatism thus gets lesser. However, arranged marriages usually works.. people who gets into these marriages are usually ready for marriage as even though they are 'arranged', majority will get a choice as to whether they are ready for marriage and so are more prepared for the realistic turn of events after marriage unlike most couples who gets married out of love.

I'm Chinese and my grandmother told me she was in an arranged marriage but eventually she left him for another man. That was like a century ago. In modern China, I do not think that arranged marriages are a common practice. I think we're becoming more western-like. My parents weren't in an arranged marriage.
I think arranged marriages are more common in countries like India and the middle east.

they're more common.
most people don't have a choice other than arranged marriage because society is very conservative. familied get upset if boy/girl make their own decisions in these matters and its seen as going against elders wishes etc. etc.
an interesting thing is that arranged marriages most always work and divorce is very rare. probably because neither the guy or girl has any idea of who he/she is marrying and expectations are realistic.
hope that helps. why'd you ask this question anyway?
