I got some rom from romnation.net for the MAME32 Emulator, but when I put it into the roms folder for MAME, it doesn't work.

Not all games (rom)'s work. Not all games (rom)'s work properly. Not all games (rom)'s work on the latest mame build.
Some games (rom)'s require additional files such as bios and chd. Also http://www.efmovie.com/mame.htm is the easiest way to get the bios and download some great rom's. chd file are harder to come by you have to use bit torrent for them and their is information on http://www.efmovie.com/mame.htm about how to come by these files. good luck

maybe it's the emulator or just get games from another site like http://www.coolrom.com
