there was a movie called "the devil and daniel webster" but it wasnt a movie about the story they had another movie and it was like this story about this old man who was a popular song writer and proformer who went crazy or something cause he was like partially retarted or like thought he was like possed by the devil or something hah but ya his songs were really good tho. does any one kno who im talking about?? what was his real name?

hmm...I wonder if you're thinking of 1971's "The Mephisto Waltz" which starred Alan Alda who played a music journalist whose career as a piano player came to an end when his debut concert received undeservedly scathing reviews.
His young wife is concerned with the changes she sees in her husband after a rare interview with a terminally-ill famed pianist. Seems the journalist is gradually being possessed by the pianist - a satanist eager to find a new body to live in.

Could you mean "Phantom of the Paradise" perhaps? It was a rock (well sort of...music sucked for the most part) version of Phantom of the Opera...not exactly what you're describing, perhaps, but maybe...if not that, I think Gene L may be right about Mephisto Waltz

I think you're talking about Daniel Johnston, a folk singer with bipolar disorder. He was profiled in the documentary "The Devil and Daniel Johnston." "Speeding Motorcycle" is one of his more popular songs.
