To keep in a wait state and not taking any action on it. Normally people pend works when 2 or more works come at a same time and since only one task can be performed at a single point of time the other works are kept pending. Also if sufficient information is not available to complete the task then also this work would be kept pending until the required information has come.

It means not yet completed, waiting for more resources, or being completed. Pending is also described as Still Working On..

If you're talking about like a credit card or something...pending is when it's waiting for authorization. Which means a decision hasn't been made yet.
