Light as a whole is considered to be white.
There are seven colours in light which can be remembered by the word, VIBGYOR
V- Violet
I- Indigo
B- Blue
G- Green
Y- Yellow
O- Orange
R- Red

The light is considered to be a blend of these 7 colours.
These colours can be observed by dispersion of light using a glass prism

DISPERSION is the bending of light when it strikes a glass medium.

When light passes through a triangular glass prism it disperses into its constituent 7 colours. These constituent if made to pass through another prism would again produce white light

Formation of rainbow is also dispersion of light in nature. Here, the water droplets act as the prism and the formation of the seven coloured rainbow takes place.
