I'm working on my first resume for a job that I want (starbucks to be exact). I am at the moment employed somewhere else, and I want to include this in my resume, but I have a problem with the start date and end date. I started in 2005, but I don't plan on leaving, so what do I put where the end date is? If you can't picture what I'm saying, what should I put where the "?" is: 2005 - ?

I also have this problem with my education. I'm still a high school student and haven't graduated, so what would i put for "y": x - y (x being the first year).

Thank you all for your quick responses. Cindie, thanks for the great response and I will put it as 'Present.' As well, thanks for the encouragement. I'm not a coffee drinker and know very little concerning coffee, but its nice to know that this could be to my advantage :)

The answer is; replace the date with "present"
I took a resume' builing class in college (recently) and this is what all companies expect to see. Unless you are unemployed, you will have to put present in that category. Starbucks inparticular likes hiring students and people who show that they can hold a job. My old room mate was a manager there. hint: don't feel like you have to have coffee making experience, starbucks would rather hire people they can train on a clean slate. If you have experience you might bring bad coffee making habits to their store. ( I worked in coffee for four years )

for your current job put from 2005 to present do the same for your education put the year you started to present that will let the person that is conducting the interview know that you are still in school and still at your current job
good luck

I would suggest you take some professional help from MS word which has inbuilt resume templates for making your resume.

You can also follow the step-by-step instruction to make your free resume, using the resume builder provided with MS office.

Just leave it blank, they usually don't even pay attention to that anyway. I never put the exact dates of employment and none of the employers ever asked about it.
