I am in the claims of insurance company. If your son if living with you and is using the same address, he is covered for borrowing your car if you give him your permission. But you can easily add him to your policy, just call your customer service rep. Although if he messes it up big time and the adjuster (investigator) says that he is fully liable for an accident, you might end up raising your premium. So think about it long and hard, do you trust the driving skills of your son enough to cover him under your auto insurance? Don't worry to much about loosing everything, if you have a good insurance company, they will take care of you.

My husband broke his ankle one time, and his friend insisted that they go get cigarettes. Since my husband could not drive a stick shift due to his injury, his friend drove our car. It was in the middle of winter and the road was slippery. A car cut them off, and his friend swerved into the guard rail practically totalling our car. Well, our insurance premium didn't go up. We were told that his friend's insurance will have to pay because he was an authorized driver. Now, since your son is probably uninsured, your insurance company will pick up the tab (if you have uninsured motorist coverage) and that will raise your premium.

For one, he's 22 and should have his own insurance. Two, drive him to work, then there's not a problem. Three, make sure you have enough car insurance to cover liability up to the amount of your house, just in case. Then you don't have to worry. If he's irresponsible, I wouldn't let him borrow your car, especially until he has his own insurance. He's mooching!

No...tell him that you can drive him tomorrow. It's not worth loosing a huge asset like a house over.

Drive him to work, mom. Call your insurance agency when you get home and add him to your policy.
