Yes, you will need to upgrade to Yahoo mail plus @ $20/year

Free normal yahoo mail does not support POP3/SMTP.

Free normal Yahoo mail doesnot support POP3, you need to pay to have yahoo in your Thunderbird.

Yes, Yahoo and MSN charge you to have POP access, i hate that, but thats how it is.
