Ok, so if ya'll dont know yet, I'm auditioning for American Idol on September 8th in Minneapolis. This is a question for people who made it to round two (aka Hollywood) or "higher".

DO YOU HAVE TO READ MUSIC?

I mean you are supposed to choose a song to sing for the second audition out of a list, and I was wondering if they just gave you a music sheet, or if they give you a CD (cause I remember a lot of people were listening to cd players while practicing their song..and I mean not everyone is going to have a CD that they brough with that one particular song). I really hope they give you a CD and maybe words, because if not I'm really f*cked.

See, I sing my ear. My mother never got me into anything musical (that is why I love choir since it's the only musical thing I'm in) or anything that helped me read music. I can sort of read music, I mean I know the whole FACE for the spaces and EGBDF for the lines, but I dont know what an A sounds like or what a B sounds like, etc.

I ONLY WANT ANSWERS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE AUDTIONED AND MADE IT TO HOLLYWOOD

All I want to know is if I have to be able to read music or not. Or if they give you CD's to listen to the song you're going to sing. I dont want advice.

Hi there, do you remember me? I have the info regarding Simon's favorite songs, would you please contact me thru Yahoo?

I have tried several times to send you the info, but Yahoo says that your email must be confirmed in order to do that.

You don't necessarily have to be able to read music, but it does help. If you make it past the first round of auditions you will be provided with a copy of the song you select from the list to sing.
The Best advice i can give you for round two, is to get in as much practice as you can so that you know every word to the song off by heart, and read the lyrics a couple of times, then try to sing as much of the song as you can without referring back to the words. As they say 'PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT'.
Good luck and i hope for your sake, you breeze through the first two rounds and if your talented enough get into the final twelve.
