this threads stupidity astounds me.
benzs are NOT even close to the best built cars on the planet. that goes to toyota/lexus and porsche. Merc has actually had tons of reliability issues in the last 10 or so years.
Mercedes are also not better engineered than BMWs. when was the last time mercedes made a car under 4000 pounds? When was the last time the placed at lemans? Hm? not since i can remember.
and about being american made: Both BMW and Mercedes both produce cars in the united states. Only german cars made in germany anymore are some of the wolfsburg cars from VW, the phaeton, and porsches.
and personally i would take an m3 csl over any mercedes outside of the CLK GTR or the SLR. Mercedes needs to learn to make something that doesnt handle like a boat.

If you are looking to buy a luxury automobile I'd stick with Lexus, Acura or Infiniti. Both Mercedes and BMW have reliability issues. I have an Acura RL and love it.
