The difference between + and - format on DVD media is Pioneer first developed and marketed the - R/RW media that only played or burnt in a Pioneer drive.

Sony and Phillips got together and established the + R/RW media in competition with Pioneer.

Now they are all much of a muchness. You will still get incompatibility with some media and some drives but it is rare nowdays.

Cheers,

Robert

They're the same speed. Not all DVD players and CD players are the same. Some are made in Europe, Asia and some in Northern America. Because of this, some DVDs or CDs wont play on certain players. You should consult your DVD/CD owners manual which format your players uses, + or -. There are a lot more DVD/CD' that play with the "-" format. Either should work though, players now a days will work with either.

Well the + and - only apply to DVD's and its not W and RW its R and RW. R means that everything burned to it is Read-Only and RW means that you can delete and change stuff. In DVD's most DVD Players support the - format and most don't support the + format.

In general, there's not much difference in overall compatibility. If you have an older DVD player, it might have problems with one but not the other. If your DVD burner supports both, then just switch the media you're using as a test.

This only applies to blank DVD media, not CDs.

The + and - are just different formats, much like VHS and Beta.

VHS eventually won out, but there's yet to be a winner between + and -.

According to different salesman, one will burn fater than the other; I've gotten conflicting stories.

It's just one more way of making money and one more thing to aggitate the customer.
