Hi,

You will find the Square root symbol in the "Character map"

In Windows XP, click on START - All Programs - System Tools

The code for the symbol is U+221A.

Use this to do a search in the Character Map window.

In Word you bring up the character map through the file menu "Insert" then click "Symbol"

Cheers,

Robert

The set of characters used on a keyboard is the Extended ASCII set.

There are many more characters in that set that can't be used via the keyboard.

However, by pressing the ALT key and some numbers on the keypad you can make a huge range of symbols and international characters.

For Squre Root symbol:
1. put your cursor on the page where you want the symbol.
2. hold down the ALT key and press the numbers 2, 5 and 1 on your numeric keypad.

To see a list of the ASCII character table and the Extended ASCII character table you could go to http://www.lookuptables.com/
They have a table on that page of all characters and the numbers you need to use with ALT to get the characters.

Start -> Run, type "charmap" (without the quotes) and hit OK.

Look towards the bottom 1/4 of the list.
