I'm trying to remember the name of this particular habit / tic where a person's expressions do not match their emotions - for example, smilling when they are upset, etc. Does anyone know?

(and no, the answer is not passive aggressiveness)

The proper professional term is "incongruous mood expression."

Emotional Lability also known as the Labile affect or Pseudobulbar affect is related, but is a pathological condition and not a purely social one.
