people display emotions differently. When my lil brother died I wanted to jump in the coffin with him during the funeral I had an attack of the giggles, people were looking at me weird but I couldnt help but think about the silliest thing that happened to him when he was a kid and I was histerical. It didnt mean I missed him less or that I wasnt torn about loosing him it was just my way of coping. Sorry about your gerbil.

I am so sorry to hear about your gerbil dying, it is so difficult to lose a pet that we love and care about. You really do have feelings, the sense of loss is just so fresh and new, you are in shock. Try to remember the wonderful times you had together and how much joy and fun he brought to your life. These thoughts will help you to get over the shock and hurt. Know that he is in animal heaven at the Rainbow Bridge, where all of our beloved pets will wait for us. You need to talk to some other family members and friends about your loss. I will say a special prayer for you and your gerbil.

I think that you are still in a state of shock, your mind has yet to comprehend the idea that your little fuzzbutt is gone and won't be there anymore. The same thing has recently happened to me with my sweet rattie, she went to have tumor surgery and I had convinced myself that she was going to be ok and everything would go back to normal that when she died on the table, I was in complete denial and disbelief so much so that I didn't cry and spent almost two weeks in a state of shock until it dawned on me that she wasn't coming back, when it did I was inconsolable and even now when I think about her I tear up because I felt that I should've and could've done more for her sooner but I didn't. I'm sorry for your loss. Things will never be ok but they will be alright.

There are several phases of death when losing someone you love. You might consider google searching them and reading up on them and that may help you to understand what phase you are in and what else to expect. Losing a companion of the human or animal persuasion is a painful experience and you need to know that it is ok to go through these phases. Perhaps you might consider getting a new pet, (not a replacement) but a new friend even one of a different class and allowing that companionship to be there to help comfort you through your loss.
I feel for you and wish you the very best

Emotion has its time to show when the timing is right...
But your time is interupted by something unintentional...
It could be the shock or the environment you are in...
In due time you recall back those memories... Your memories of emotion will soon to show... or you just need a trigger. :)
Just like the time when I was returning home from my holiday relative visit... I was suppose to show my emotion as I was saying goodbye... but showing no 'will miss you' expressions.
Then during the journey to the airport... A sudden pour of tears came rushing out when I recall back those memories... showing I still wanted to stay much more longer... :~)
Trully miss those days...

You can possibly be in a state of shock. Don't worry, after a while it will sink in that you have just lost your pet. Then, you will cry.
