In order to work in any bar, you must be old enough to drink - in other words 21. In order to work in the restaurant attached to a bar, or that just serves alcohol, check with the restaurant.

The drinking age is 21 so to serve liquor you have to be 21 as well. Even in a major grocery store like Jewel or Dominicks, if the casher is under 21 and a customer is buying liquor, the casher has to request that an older manager come over and press the key on the register to ring up a liquor sale. The underage person can't do that themselves.

Most places state that you have to be 21 to serve alcohol.. however if you just want to be a waiter period than 16 but you need not worry about serving drinks since most waiters are under-aged they will just send the bartender anyway.

I was a server since 17 so I hope I was told the proper legal ages. You have to be 21 to MAKE drinks and SELL. But you may serve at 18. Although I worked at a banquet hall at 16 and they had us put wine on the tables? Maybe law different for banquets.

21. In suburbs they can hire if you're 18 but they will not have you serve alcohol, someone who's 21+ will have to do it for you ( that is if you work in a corporate chain restaurant). that's my experience. but also - if it's a family place they probbaly won't care much.

i work in gurnee and i believe you have to be 18. but i'm 23, and ive worked in wisconsin forever so the law here requires you to be 18 or older. i'm pretty sure there is a bartender or 2 that i work with who are not yet 21. i'm pretty damn sure of it.
